Functioning of the archive-keeping in Ukraine was discussed during the meeting in the Committee on Culture and Spirituality

The Committee Chairman Vyacheslav Kyrylenko, Chairperson of the State Archive  Service of Ukraine Olha Hinsburh, people’s deputies, experts and scientists participated in the discussion.

V.Kyrylennko outlined a number of topical problems of the branch, including the necessity to decrease bureaucratic obstacles in accessing archive materials, and creation of electronic copies of archive documents, etc.  

“Free access to national archive is first of all the image of the state, its way to democratic development,” noted Vyacheslav Kyrylenko.

The issues of refining archive legislation; proper funding of archive security institutions; creation of electronic copies of archive documents, etc. were discussed during the event. It was stressed that personnel of archive institutions hope for support on the part of the Committee in solving these issues.   

O.Hinsburh informed that the personnel of archive institutions asks also for assistance in increasing storage space for national archives collection and funding the process of transferring archive documents on electronic media, etc.

V.Kyrylenko stressed that the Committee is ready to refine the legislative base of archive keeping jointly with experts and to promote increase of state funding of the branch.

The Committee Chairman criticized the fact that the main page of the State Archive web site lacks information about the struggle of the OUN and UPA for the revival of the Ukrainian national state.
