The problem of delivering printed publications “is a long-standing one; it has lasted during the whole period of Ukraine’s independence”, noted Anatoliy Horlov, editor in chief of the Holos Ukraine (Voice of Ukraine) newspaper. According to him, the delay in delivery of periodicals ranges from 1 to 5 days.
The Director General of the Ukrainian State Enterprise of Postal Communication Ukrposhta Oksana Plotnikova informed that the issue of timely press delivery could be settled if print of periodicals be established in regions.
Participants of the meeting stressed that Ukrposhta “should bear social responsibility for delivery of printed periodicals”.
According to Mykola Tomenko, the Committee Chairman, in order to settle the problem we should address government with a suggestion to renew the work of the inter-departmental commission on delivery of periodicals, or establishment of a new commission with similar authorities.
M.Tomenko stressed the necessity to refine the Law “On Postal Services” regarding reconsideration of the list of universal postal services and establishment of regulation over services market on posting delivery.
Representatives of the National Union of Journalists, the state Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, and the Ukrainian Association of Press Publishers participated in the meeting.
