Ukraine expects for future presidency of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Union in 2013 with great optimism and hopes for the breakthrough in relations between Ukraine and the EU.

It was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Rybak during the meeting with the Chairman of the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic Vydas Gedvilas on Monday. 

He noted that Ukraine highly appreciates consecutive support and assistance from the Lithuanian Party in implementation of Euro-integrational purposes of Ukraine.  

According to Volodymyr Rybak, our state on the current level pays particular attention to the issues the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement signing, and the Agreement on a deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU.

The Leader of the Parliament called the successful implementation of the Action Plan on realization of visa free regime for Ukraine one of the most important priorities.   

 “We support the main priorities of the Lithuanian presidency in the EU. The key priority for us will be further progress of “the Eastern Partnership” initiative,” – Volodymyr Rybak noted. “In this context, the necessity arises to continue discussion of further evolution of “Eastern Partnership.” In particular, it should concern the issue of recognition of European perspective of countries-partners aiming at the integration to the EU.”

 “We will appreciate assistance in the issue of preparation for the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement signing during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius organized by Lithuania in November this year,” the Chairman of the Parliament said.

In his turn, Vydas Gedvilas highly appreciated the level of bilateral Ukrainian-Lithuanian cooperation. “Ukraine started to do its homework. We have a great aim – signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement,” he said. “But it is not only our aim, first of all, Ukraine should aspire it.”      

 “Lithuania wants Ukraine to follow one way with the EU,” the Chairman of the Seimas of the Lithuanian Republic stressed.

Today the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada will also participate in the meeting of the Presidium of Interparliamentary Assembly of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania.
