The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ihor Kalyetnik said this during the working visit to Strasbourg, held on March 26-27 under the auspices of the Council of Europe, where he participates in the high level consultations concerning reforming prosecutor’s office in Ukraine.
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Pshonka and the Councilor of the President of Ukraine Andriy Portnov participate in the event on the part of Ukraine.
The Council of Europe is represented by the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland, Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law Philippe Boillat, Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert, etc.
In the course of the dialogue, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament noted significant progress in reforming of the prosecutor’s office.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted more than 30 laws to amend the Law of Ukraine “On Prosecutor’s Office”.
“The Ukrainian Parliament is set for discussion of these initiatives. It is extremely important for me to be present at this meeting to get across this stand to the people’s deputies of Ukraine,” stressed I.Kalyetnik.
In his turn, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine V.Pshonka reassured the participants of the high-level Consultation that our state “does not intend to stop at this stage of implementation of provisions of the new Criminal and Procedure Code”.
“As of today, the President of Ukraine has clearly set main directions of Euro-integrational processes in our country that stipulate reforming of judiciary system, internal affairs and prosecutor’s office bodies. All these directions are not only priority ones, but their implementation is under personal control of the Head of the State,” added V.Pshonka
