Opening the meeting, the Committee Chair Iryna Sekh noted that attention of the people’s deputies to the ecological situation in the Dnipropetrovsk region is connected with extreme technological load, for more than one third of its territory is referred to the category of the most polluted land and the rest – to the much polluted land. “It is necessary to take all measures to settle the existing issues, since they accumulate and threaten environment and citizens’ health and, thus, can become irreversible,” noted the people’s deputy.
People’s deputies considered the following issues: on fulfillment of conditions for privatization of (ecological measures) OJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih”; on organization of monitoring over technogenic part of the crust and prevention of emergency situations in Kryvbas; on implementation of the Committee’s decision of October 16, 2012 No. 130/11-1 “On environmental situation in the Oril River basin”; and on ensuring radiation and social protection of population in the regions of uranium ore mining and processing.
Iryna Sekh noted that separate attention should be drawn to ensuring radiation and social protection of population in the regions of uranium ore mining and processing. Ukraine is among the top ten countries in the world in the field of nuclear energy.
A number of problems that accumulated during the last decades in the social and economic development of the city, particularly, environmental that should be urgently resolved. “They should be addressed by the new State target program on radiation and social protection of population in the town of Zhovti Vody for 2013-2022. The cost of the program is estimated at approximately UAH 200 million. The State Budget of Ukraine for 2013 allocates UAH 14,3 million for implementation of the Program,” was noted during the meeting.
Representatives of local authorities and bodies of local self-government of Dnipropetrovsk region, as well as central executive authorities, NGOs, heads of enterprises and scientists, etc. participated in the meeting.
