Participants discussed the OSCE Election Observation Mission Final Report on Ukraine’s parliamentary elections in 2012.
The Committee Chair stressed that European integration remains a priority for Ukraine. He expressed gratitude to the OSCE Mission for the recommendations set out in the Final Report and assured that they will be taken into account while adopting decisions on refining election legislation.
The issue of term of office of local bodies of self-government elected in October 2010 and those to be elected during the next local elections was discussed.
Davyd Zhvaniya drew attention to the fact that one of the main problems of the agenda is the elections to the Kyiv City Council and elections of Kyiv mayor. “We are trying to settle this legislatively problematic issue. The discussion has largely moved form legislative field to the political one. There are a number of problems starting from forming commissions and ending with their financing. But elections should be held in any case, for the capital cannot be left without authorities,” said the Committee Chairman.
