The issue of European integration of Ukraine in the context of the forthcoming EU-Ukraine Summit that will be held on February 25, in Brussels and the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius, in November this year was discussed.
Hryhoriy Nemyria stressed: “Now it is important for us to synchronize watches with our European partners regarding what should be done by the Ukrainian Party and in what time period in order to sign the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.” He hopes that “the Association Agreement will be signed in November this year during the Eastern Partnership Summit.”
“It is important for us to show the EU tangible progress of the Ukrainian Party in implementing criteria needed for signing the Agreement,” noted the Chairman of the Committee. “We understand that implementation of these criteria requires non-selective approach. It is a sole package.”
Hryhoriy Nemyria said that "the EU Council determined the abovementioned criteria concerning politically-motivated persecution of opposition and selective justice in Ukraine, as well as reforming of both election legislation and the judicial and law enforcement systems of our state in its conclusions on December 10 last year.”
The Ambassador of the Slovak Republic said that his country "supports Ukraine's Euro-integration aspirations and will facilitate signing of the Association Agreement in the nearest time, on condition the criteria of the EU are fulfilled."
They discussed also the liberalization of visa regime between Ukraine and the EU. Pavol Hamzik noted that "Slovakia, as a country that borders Ukraine, supports simplification of visa regime."
Apart from that, the results and outcomes of the visit of the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fulle last week were also discussed.
