Ukrainian authorities are interested in development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations with Moldova, and the Parliaments of our countries should play an important role here.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodumyr Rybak stressed this during the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Ukraine Ion Stevile on Friday.

Volodymyr Rybak emphasized that the Republic of Moldova is not only Ukraine's neighbor, but also our important foreign policy partner. Our country positively assesses development trends of bilateral cooperation.

According to the Chairman of the Parliament, recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Leonid Kozhara to the Republic of Moldova, as the current OSCE Chairman, and his negotiations with the Moldovan Government showed mutual desire of the Parties to reach progress in solving problematic issues of the agenda of the Ukrainian-Moldovan relations.

Among the top-priority tasks in bilateral cooperation Volodymyr Rybak named, in particular, preparations for the signing of documents on property issues, completing demarcation of the state border and preparation of the Agreement on functioning of the Dniester Complex Hydro System. "I am convinced that solving of these issues will allow our countries to fully focus on mutual strategic priority – the European integration, and improve interaction in all existing forms of regional cooperation," he said.

According to the Chairman of the Parliament, a successful example of such succcesful coooperation may be the realization of joint projects within the Euroregion "Dnestr" and involvement of the Transnistria representatives into this process.

Speaking of the parliamentary component of bilateral cooperation, Volodymyr Rybak expressed an opinion that the newly elected Parliament and deputies of the Parliament of Moldova will soon intensify cooperation and determine plans for its implementation.

Volodymyr Rybak expressed hopes for intensifying cooperation at the level of parliamentary friendship groups and specialized committees, which, according to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, will promote solving of the pressing issues of the Ukrainian-Moldovan cooperation and provide for a better understanding and support of internal reforms in Ukraine and Moldova on the part of our partners abroad.

Volodymyr Rybak expressed also his gratitude to the leaders of the Republic of Moldova for assistance in holding elections of the people’s deputies of Ukraine on the territory of Moldova, which allowed Ukrainian citizens, that are permanent residents of Moldova, participate in the elections. In this context, he highly appreciated impartial and reasonable stand of Moldovan observers during these elections.

In his turn, Mr. Ambassador thanked the Verkhovna Rada for readiness to continue cooperation with Moldovan colleagues. It appears to him that there is every opportunity to activate parliamentary component of bilateral relations.
