Oldrich Andrysek stated that the UNHCR activity aimed at providing protection and assistance to refugees in different countries. According to him, the UNHCR personnel works both in capital cities and in the borderlands, striving not only to ensure the rights of the refugees, but to minimize threats of any violence against them. Oldrich Andrysek stressed also that the organization helps refugees to return to their homeland, if conditions permit; to integrate in the countries that provided them asylum; or to move to the third countries.
The UNHCR Regional Representative informed that his organization “strives to reduce the number of forced relocation situations.”
Oldrich Andrysek said that the UNHCR in Ukraine seeks closer cooperation with the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations.
The Chairman of the Committee Valeriy Platskan drew attention of the Regional Representative to the fact that issues of migration, refugees, and asylum in Ukraine as well as ethno-national policy are the top-priority directions in the Committee’s activity.
The Chairman of the subcommittee on international relations Ivan Popesku and the Chairman of the subcommittee on ethno-policy, rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities in Ukraine, and political repression victims Mustafa Jemilev participated in the event.
