Opening the meeting, the Committee Chair Artur Palatnyi noted that all of the issues being under the competence of the Committee “are of great importance for ensuring stable development of Ukrainian society”. According to him, the level of state support to children and youth, to the sector of physical culture and sport, to ensuring formation of healthy life style of children and youth, to effective use of resources allocated by the state in order to implement all theses trends determines the future of Ukraine on the immediate horizon and in the future.

People’s deputies stressed that the Committee will attach special attention to improving law enforcement in the sphere of family, youth and sports policy, and to executing parliamentary control over the activity of executive authorities and bodies of local self-government regarding adherence to the requirements of legislation in this sector.

Members of the Committee believe that there is a need to expedite approval of state programs for children's sanitation and recreation and development of state-run enterprises “International Children’s Center ‘Artek’” and “Ukrainian Children’s Center ‘Moloda Hvardiya’” (“Young Guard”), which, according to the requirements of standardized documents, should have been adopted in 2009.

People’s deputies adopted the decision to establish three subcommittees:

on youth policy, family and childhood (headed by Mykola Zhuk);

on physical training and sport (headed by Serhiy Topalov);

on the development of tourism, resorts and recreational activities (headed by Ivan Bushko).
