Due to libelous comments in the mass media regarding the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn, which, apparently are connected with the final stage of the fight for the post of the Chairman of the Parliament, the Press Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariat affirms the following:

According to the legislation, being elected by the deputies, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada organizes the work and presides the Preparatory Deputy Group on holding plenary meetings of the first session of the Verkhovna Rada of new convocation.

Since the suggestions regarding the composition of such a Group are made by political parties possessing mandates and people’s deputies elected in single-mandate constituencies, V.Lytvyn entered the composition of the Preparatory Deputy Group on the proposal of the Party of Regions. Other political parties took it calmly, in view of the fact that their aggregate representation quota in the Preparatory Deputy Group is nearly equal to that of the Party of Regions’.

Origins and reasons for such comments are apparent: some applicants for the post of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the help of their political consultants resorted to cynical and false allegations, viewing this fact as a threat to them.

We recommend such doers, and particularly those who dropped their young passions to stand out with “disclosure” to calm down and return to ordinary life.

The stand of the V.Lytvyn is strict and multiply voiced: he is neither going to join anybody nor is he claiming to any position. He plans to work as an ordinary deputy in the Committee on Science and Education.

Such primitive and cheap tricks testify to the fact that both customers and performers of this deceptive campaign, resorting to unfounded outbursts, lack moral brakes and elementary political moderation.
