The CIS countries have great potential for successful development of cooperation.

This was stressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine answering journalists’ questions in Saint Petersburg on Friday. “I am a supporter of actual but not imaginary cooperation within both the CIS and Inter-Parliamentary Assembly,” he said, adding that there are a lot of unused recourses and possibilities in cooperation between CIS member states.

V.Lytvyn believes that there is a need to further develop cooperation in all spheres “that are of key importance to each country, each society and each person”. Thereat, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament highly stressed the need to broaden humanitarian relations since, he believes, insufficient cooperation in this sphere leads to loss of "colossal opportunities" in the economic sector and in the issues pertaining to coordination of efforts of CIS Member States for fruitful cooperation on the international arena. “In many cases our interests coincide, and if we advocate them separately it does not give the desired result,” he said.

Summing up, V.Lytvyn noted: “The result and state sovereignty of each sate is most important to us”.
