The Committee on Environmental Policy, Use of Natural Resources and Chornobyl Aftermath Mitigation considered deterioration of ecological situation in Mariupol in connection with production activity of PJSC “Mariupol Illich Metalurgical Complex” and PJSC “’Azovstal’ Metallurgical Complex”

The Committee granted a hearing to the information of the State Environment Inspection of Ukraine on companies’ adherence to environmental legislation, the level of emissions and functioning of treatment facilities.

 

According to the Information of the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine, the state control after adherence to environmental legislation by PJSC “Mariupol Illich Metallurgical Complex” and PJSC “’Azovstal’ Metallurgical Complex” is constantly performed by the State Azov Sea Environmental Inspection (Inspection).

 

Having detected violations of the environmental legislation, the Inspection took the respective measures.

 

To eliminate violations, the administration of PJSC “Mariupol Illich Metallurgical Complex” received mandatory guidelines.

 

To eliminate violations, the administration of PJSC “’AzovstalMetallurgical Complexreceived mandatory guidelines.

 

The State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine elaborated the bill “To amend the Code of Administrative Violations of Ukraine and the Criminal Code of Ukraine re aggravation of responsibility for violation of environmental legislation”. As of the moment, the bill has been submitted for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Reg. No. 11037).

 

The Ministry of Nature adopted the DecreeOn Approval of Unified Act Forms for Compliance with the Requirements of Environmental Legislation and Inventory of Main Issues for Planned Measures of State Supervision (Control)”.

 

By results of discussion, the Committee resolved to recommend that the Cabinet of Ministers should consider the possibility of announcing Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities with similar ecological situation (where the limits of emissions into the atmosphere have been exceeded) as the zones of environmental emergency.
