In the framework of the official visit to Saint Petersburg (the Russian Federation) the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn met with the leaders of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation

In the framework of the official visit to Saint Petersburg (the Russian Federation) the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn met with the leaders of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. 

 

During the meeting with Sergey Naryshkin, the Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and Valentina Matvienko, the Chairperson of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, V.Lytvyn expressed his gratitude to the Russian Party for active participation of its representatives in the international observation of the election of people’s deputies in Ukraine.

 

The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament also expressed his gratitude to Russian colleagues for fruitful cooperation during the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation and expressed his conviction that its new composition will also intent at further development of strategic partnership with Russia.

 

The Parties discussed issues pertaining to broadening cooperation in the economic sphere.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada believes that signing of the Memoranda between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and Eurasian Economic Commission Board for Cooperation on Trade and Technical Regulation will allow for improving the state of trade and economic relations between our country and Member States of the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space. 

 

Speaking on cooperation in social and humanitarian spheres, V.Lytvyn stressed the importance of support provided by the Russian Party to the activities of Ukrainian community.  He said that the second stage of the constitutive meeting of the All-Russian Ukrainian community “Ukrainian Russian Congress” will be held in Moscow on November 24.  

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed the idea that accelerating consideration and signing of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on cooperation in the sphere of ensuring the rights of representatives of national minorities will promote further broadening of social and humanitarian relations between our countries.

 

V.Lytvyn expressed his gratitude to the Russian Party for timely completion of restoration of the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Moscow.

 

S.Naryshkin noted that Russia has carefully monitored the course of the election campaign in Ukraine, since “it is the most important event of the year for your country”. He noted thereat, that elections were held in a democratic way. 

 

V.Matviyenko noted that the observers did not notice any significant violations of the Ukrainian election legislation.

 

As it was mentioned before, V.Lytvyn participates in the IPA CIS events in Saint Petersburg on November 22-23.
