The bill (Reg. No. 0285) aims at establishing basis for public participation in the process of issuing licenses for releasing genetically modified organisms in the environment. Ratification of the abovementioned provisions will allow for incorporating current mechanisms into article 2 of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity in the part of ensuring human biosafety.

People’s deputies believe that adoption of the bill corresponds to compliance with the requirements of the Aarhus Convention and integrates Ukrainian legislation in the European legal framework.
