The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn deems the quantitative dimension of results of the Parliament’s work satisfactory

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn deems the quantitative dimension of results of work of the Parliament of the present convocation satisfactory, as during the four years of their work peoples deputies adopted 1472 laws, 195 of themof systemic character. He claimed this in his interview to the parliamentary TV channel Rada on Thursday.

 

According to the Head of the Parliament, during the period of work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the sixth convocation parliamentarians considered over 5 thousand bills and 7 thousand resolutions, and adopted almost 4 thousand resolutions of organizational and administrative character. V. Lytvyn noted that almost 6 thousand documents are being processed by the Verkhovna Rada at the moment.

 

Among the positive aspects of work of the Parliament of the present convocation, V. Lytvyn mentioned adoption of a number of codesthe Tax Code, the Budgetary Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Air Code. He characterized them as “extremely complicated documents”. Important is also adoption of the laws governing land issues and economic sphere. He said that “not all of these documents are equal, as a part of them bear the reflection of a compromise, lobbyism, or some subjective viewpoints.”

 

The Head of the Parliament stressed also that the work of the Verkhovna Rada wasjust-in-time”, and paid attention to the fact thatthe Governments proposals were considered quite promptly.”

 

Among the drawbacks of work, V. Lytvyn named the adoption of legislative acts that drew negative response in the society, particularly, the first version of the Tax Code, the bill on criminal responsibility for libel, and the law on language policy. “The Parliament should have shown more responsibility, objectivity and consideration in regard to these issues,” he said.
