The bill to amend the Rules of Procedure of the Verkhovna Rada in the part of changing the procedure of election and withdrawal of the heads of the Parliament was adopted under the decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed this answering the journalistsquestions on Thursday.

The Head of the Parliament explained that after the court decision was taken, the previous norm determining the procedure of electing the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada became invalid. “The Rules of Procedure are brought into conformance with the decision of the Constitutional Court in this part,” he said and added that “nothing particular happened”, and this decision “shall be executed no matter whether everyone likes it or not.”

V. Lytvyn noted that the bill was adopted as a basis only, as, according to him, “elections and their results may make some allowances.” The Head of the Parliament noted that the future groups and factions are already “fighting” for the post of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to him, those future deputies who are now advocating the simplification of the procedure to elect the head of the Parliament, “meaning themselves”, should think how they will work in case they are elected, “when they depend on this or that powerful political force or accords of several political factions or groups in the Parliament.”

V. Lytvyn stressed in this context that it is necessary to make efforts for the Parliamentnot to turn into a toy in the hands of political factions.”
