Introduction of provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure into the practice of law enforcement bodies was considered during the hearings at the Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement

Opening the hearing, the first deputy head of the Committee Volodymyr Oliynyk noted thatadoption of the new Code of Criminal Procedure is a determinant stage of reforming the system of criminal justice in Ukraine.”

 

The first deputy head distinguished elaboration of Provisions on the Single Register of Pre-Trial Investigations and development of the respective software from among organizational legal measures.

 

Informatization of criminal proceedings and its transfer from hard copies to digital media is just a matter of time,” believes V. Oliynyk. “However, we need to be ready to meet new challenges and threats.”

 

The first deputy head of the Committee noted that some drawbacks may come up in the course of implementation of the new Code of Criminal Procedure.

 

Representatives of the prosecution service, internal affairs bodies, Security Service, tax service, and judicial branch of power reported on implementation of the new Code of Criminal Procedure by the respective law enforcement agencies.

 

They noted that, on the whole, law enforcement bodies are ready to work under new conditions.

 

A general discussion was held during the hearings. People’s deputies, representatives of the National Academy of Prosecution, Academy of Advocateship of Ukraine, State Scientific and Research Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, State Court Administration of Ukraine, leading academics and legal specialists participated in this discussion.

 

Participants of the discussion drew attention to the fact that all participants of the court process will have equal rights under the new Code.

 

They also paid attention to the necessity to conduct joint trainings for prosecution service staff and representatives of other law enforcement bodies, and lawyers.

 

Participants of the discussion suggested organizing an interagency group to analyze and monitor practical implementation of the Code of Criminal Procedure and provide immediate consultative assistance to the staff of law enforcement bodies.
