On Monday, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn presented educators of secondary, vocational and training, pre-school and after-school institutions with annual awards of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Greeting the participants V.Lytvyn stressed the importance of establishing healthy environment for raising and development of children and, at the same time, preserving individual’s rights and freedoms. He drew attention to the necessity to increase the quality of education, particularly, in the high school. The Chairman of the Parliament believes that there is a need “to maximize the autonomy of universities, and establish entrance examinations in history and the Ukrainian language as obligatory for all educational institutions”.

V.Lytvyn expressed his gratitude to the educators “for their selfless work and ability to pay attention to the things that unite”, as well as for being able to dissociate themselves from political preferences and attempts to maintain dialogue between the authorities and the active part of society.

According to V.Lytvyn, the key task today is to create new working places “for people to live better”. Speaking about the adoption of the budget for the next year he warned against attempts to pass populist “nice decisions” until the already taken social obligations are fulfilled.

V.Lytvyn expressed hopes that future parliamentary elections in Ukraine will be conventional and “a new stage of country’s life will begin, being much better from the existing image”.
