The Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism recommends that the Parliament should adopt as a basis the bill to amend several legislative acts on protection of childhood

The legislative proposals of the bill (Reg. No. 10625) pertain, in particular, to increasing the efficiency of realization of the state policy on protection of childhood, improvement of regulatory provision of child social protection, improvement of work of central and local executive bodies and local self-government related to social work with children that need attention on the part of the state.

 

In particular, amendments to the Civil and Family Codes stipulate that the guardian or caretaker of an orphan or a child deprived of parental care shall be appointed from among the persons related to the fostered child; only one guardian or caretaker shall be appointed.

 

It is also proposed to bring certain provisions of the Code of Civil procedure regarding consideration of cases on adoption into conformance with the norms of the Family Code.

 

According to the members of the Committee, implementation of bill provisions will facilitate better protection of vulnerable categories of children. People?s deputies stressed also that adoption of the bill would allow for solving the problems posed before the executive bodies by the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada "On recommendations of parliamentary hearings "Legislative support and real state of observance of children?s rights in Ukraine."
