The Vice-speaker of the Parliament Mykola Tomenko participated in opening the tournament, held by the Ukrainian Tennis Center on the occasion of the Day of physical training and sport on Saturday.
Famous politicians and businessmen participated in the event on opening of which M.Tomenko stressed that it is highly important that famous people showed by their own example that not only they support physical training and sport but they also are engaged in it.
At the same time, answering the question regarding the situation in the Track and Field Athletics Federation, M.Tomenko noted that this is neither the first nor the last federation where officials together with functionaries cash budget costs on sportsmen, and sportsmen work out in miserable conditions, both infrastructural and living. M.Tomenko expressed hopes that the State Service of youth and sports of Ukraine will make enquiry and remove officials from other federations, especially those who were counted on during the Olympiad in London, who were allocated substantial funds to and who completely failed competitions.
Even more serious, according to the Vice-speaker, is the situation with children sports schools that are totally underfinanced. M.Tomenko reminded that he suggested transferring schools financed by the Social Insurance Fund to the single structure dealing with the problems of physical training and sport.
M.Tomenko also stressed the necessity to rectify mistakes in the governmental model. He believes that there should be the Physical Training and Sports State Committee possessing the status of central executive authority instead of State service with the status of department inside the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports.
