The state should not settle the debts of the economic agents. This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
Volodymyr Lytvyn in his answers to the journalists during the working trips to Zhytomyr region. Commenting on the decision concerning the payment of UAH 3 billion debt of the Single Energy Systems by the state, he noted that "he is not informed about the essence of this case" and had not seen the documents; in addition, this is not the problem to be settled by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
"I would very much dislike the scenario where we would be forced to repay such debts," said V. Lytvyn. He believes that, in any case, UAH 3 billion should be stipulated in the budget that will be approved by the Parliament, and "such decision cannot be passed by the Verkhovna Rada." He hopes that other institutions that will consider this case will take into consideration the laws of Ukraine. "Apparently, it is necessary to prove whether a letter is the proof of state guarantee shifting the SESU debt to the state," he said and added that Ukraine should not suffer losses and repay the debts of economic agents.
Answering the question concerning the comments that the mentioned topic is a kind of publicity move, he noted that "it is a very expensive publicity move. The state does not have such funds, and will not have them in the nearest future."
