The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn held a meeting with representatives of Canadian Observation Mission working in Zhytomyr region on Saturday.
On observer?s request, V. Lytvyn analyzed the course of election campaign in Ukraine and, in particular, in Zhytomyr region. "The campaign is quite peaceful now; we can even observe some passivity," he said and explained that the candidates "prefer mass media and advertising." Nevertheless, the Head of the Parliament stated that, unfortunately, "the election campaign is based on negative facts and mutual criticism of the opponents," the candidates do not offer any practical ideas.
V. Lytvyn predicted that the election campaign will become more active in October and a large number of voters will determine their political preferences at the end of the election campaign.
Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed that all participants of the election process should observe the law. According to him, it is necessary that people make their choice. "The future parliament will be the center of political life and I would like for this tempo and rhythm to coincide with wishes of the people," he said.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada informed that he had a meeting with representatives of PACE Interim Committee for monitoring the elections in Ukraine this week. His meeting with the delegation of the respective OSCE mission is planned for the first fortnight of October. According to V. Lytvyn, at the moment the Central Election Commission has registered 500 international observers.
On Saturday, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn participates in solemn events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of establishment of Zhytomyr region.
