Educational sphere determines the state of health of the society and the country. It is the intellectual basis and collective conscience of the nation. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn stressed this at teacher conferences in Baranivka, Novohrad-Volynskyi and Chervonoarmiysk districts of Zhytomyr region on Tuesday.
He noted that 884 thousand kindergartner, teachers and lecturers work in this sphere; it comprises 8 million 400 thousand children and youngsters; it makes 6.6% GDP of the country, that is, over UAH 92 billion of the consolidated budget of the country for 2012.
The Head of the Parliament stressed that “despite the complicated conditions teaching preserves its social authority, and is a firm guarantee of stability in the country.”
In this regard V. Lytvyn noted that he believes there is a need to bring conferences of educators to a new level, and “at least consider the issues of education in the context of development of Ukraine.” “Then, their perception will become clearer, and the role of school in the life of the country and the processes taking place in the world will be understood better,” said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.
Such conferences, in his opinion, are “a proposal to move to the format of a dialogue that is badly needed at the present stage of our existence. It is necessary even to prevent the confrontation between the authorities and the active citizens.”
“What we need very much today is the broad strategic feeling and vision of historical processes. We do not know what expects us in the future and cannot even be sure that we move from lesser stability to greater predictability,” he added.
