V.Lytvyn: Ukraine relies on the support of Latvia regarding the issue of implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with Salvita Aboltina, the Chairman of Latvian Seim in the framework of the official visit to Latvia on Wednesday
V.Lytvyn highly appreciated the level of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, noting that Ukrainian-Latvian partnership is fruitful. The Chairman of the Parliament expressed conviction that history and challenges of the present prove our countries? necessity to join our efforts to reach mutually beneficial results. S.Aboltina noted that Latvia is interested in broadening partnership relations with Ukraine, saying that the Ukrainian community is one of the biggest in Latvia
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada and the Chairman of the Seim supported further development of parliamentary component in Ukrainian-Latvian relations at the level of Committees and friendship groups. V.Lytvyn expressed conviction regarding the necessity to activate Ukrainian-Latvian cooperation in the international parliamentary
The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament invited the Chairman of Seim to pay an official visit to Ukraine at any convenient time. He invited Latvian colleagues to participate as observers in the parliamentary elections in Ukraine in October
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada supports further deepening of trade and economic cooperation, noting the considerable role of parliaments in this process
V.Lytvyn believes that cooperation in cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres is quite promising. He stressed the need of establishing stable links between higher educational institutions of Ukraine and Latvia, elaborating joint programs in high schools and intensifying exchange of students and teachers
The Chairman of the Parliament thanked Latvian authorities for the support of ethnic Ukrainians living in this country as well as for the promotion of renovation of Riga Ukrainian secondary school

S.Aboltina said that Latvia supports eurointegrational aspirations of Ukraine and is ready to provide our state with relevant consultative assistance, in particular, at the parliamentary level. In his turn, V.Lytvyn stressed that Ukraine relies on the support of Latvia regarding the issue of implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU and called the issue of implementation of visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine as a highly topical one
The parties discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine. S.Aboltina noted that European partners of Ukraine believe that the election process will be democratic, open and legal. In his turn, V.Lytvyn stressed great importance of these elections for Ukraine
