The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis in the framework of the official visit to Latvia on Tuesday.
V.Lytvyn claimed that Ukraine is interested in activating bilateral relations with Latvia in all spheres, in particular, in economic one. In this context he highly appreciated the results of the visit of the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov to Latvia in February this year. He noted also that Ukraine expects the visit of the Prime Minister of Latvia.
The Chairman of the Parliament stated the increase in goods turnover between our countries. He said that the Ukrainian Part expects that following the results of the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Latvian Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation which will be held on the 4-5 July this year in Riga the decision concerning further activation of bilateral cooperation will be taken.
V.Lytvyn expressed the necessity to broaden cooperation in the investment sphere. According to him, the Ukrainian Part is interested in involving Latvian investors into regional investment projects and activation of cooperation in energy sector.
According to the Head of the Parliament, transit and transport spheres as well as development of international transportation between the Baltic and the Black seas, and Ukraine and the countries of the Baltic region is another important direction of bilateral cooperation. He believes that cooperation in such spheres as engineering, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and sale of chemical products industry and in agricultural sphere is also promising. In this context the Parties stressed the necessity to further broaden container transportation using container train "Zubr".
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada stressed the importance of establishing stable links between higher educational institutions of Ukraine and Latvia, elaborating joint programs in high schools and intensifying exchange of students and teachers.
V.Lytvyn believes that Latvian experience of eurointegration is useful for Ukraine. The Head of the Parliament said that Ukrainian-Latvian cooperation in the international parliamentary forums needs to be broadened.
