People´s Deputies and representatives of the State Service on Youth and Sports and the Sports Committee of the Chess Federation of Ukraine took part in the meeting.
Opening the round table discussion, committee chairman Pavlo Kostenko stated that promotion of chess among children and youth raises the intellect of the nation, and supports comprehensive development of the young generation. "Of course, not all young chess players want to become champions and grand masters, but most of them can develop logical thinking, playing chess, and realize their potential in the future," said the People´s Deputy.
Participants of the meeting suggested that the government raised budget support of chess development at the expense of the State Budget, and considered opening the National Chess Palace in Kyiv. The Ministry of Education and Science, Youth Matters and Sports is recommended to supplement the pre-school and the primary school curriculum with an optional course of chess.
The attendants of the event scrutinized the draft resolution on establishing the Chess Day in Ukraine (Reg. No. 8760) which proclaims July 20 the Chess Day in Ukraine.
