Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is staying with a working visit in Poltava, where he takes part in the celebration of the 170th birthday anniversary of Mykhailo Drahomanov.
The Deputy Chairman of the Parliament met students and teaching board of Poltava Korolenko National University, and presented them with a scientific bibliography of M. P. Drahomanov. The book was published by Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University. As a member of the editorial board, M. Tomenko explained how in due time famous Lviv researcher Myroslav Moroz prepared the first complete bibliography which has not been published. He also reminded that a book "Mykhailo Drahomanoutobiography" was published last year.
The Deputy Chairman also stated that the anniversary will be properly celebrated in Poltava region and in the native town of Drahomanov Hadiach. However, according to the Deputy Chairman, Kyiv authorities failed to organize due celebration. "There are no prominent figures for Kyiv authorities: neither Taras Shevchenko, nor Lesia Ukrainka, nor Mykhailo Drahomanov," M. Tomenko admitted. M. Tomenko stressed that despite the fact that the parliament passed the resolution "On Celebration of the 170th Anniversary of Birth of Mykhailo Drahomanov, Prominent Ukrainian Writer, Publicist, Historian and Public Figure" in April, the authorities failed to implement it.
