The Committee on Legislative Support of Law Enforcement recommends the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to adopt the Bill on Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine (Familiarization with Materials on Criminal Case)

The bill (Reg. No. 8377) harmonizes provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and extends procedural rights of the defendant in line with the Law "On Amendments to the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine regarding Familiarization of the Defendant and the Defender with Materials on Criminal Case."

 

By analogy with a new version of clause 218 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine, the bill regulates provisions of clause 217 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine concerning the period of familiarization of the defendant, the defender, the civil claimant, the civil defendant or their representatives with materials on criminal case.

 

The committee members believe that adoption of the bill will arrange conditions for effective defense of the violated rights and liberties by criminal-legal means, and will remove the obstacles during the pre-trial inquiry in criminal cases.
