Ukrainian mass media made a new sensation concerning allegedly tremendous cost of the parliamentary fence. Numerous sites and newspapers spread the "news" with inappropriate outburst against the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada. The Press Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate refutes a blatant distortion of facts by some mass media.
The press service announces that according to the financial documents, the sum paid for repair and reconstruction of the fence around the parliamentary building in Hrushevskoho Street was exaggerated in media by almost two hundred times, and totals UAH 520 thousand. Decoration fence was replaced after a serious damage caused by the car accident in summer 2011 and in view of its unsafe condition.
The sum of UAH 9,5 million, spread by the Ukrainian mass media apt for sensations, shall be allocated for the repairs of the ventilation and air conditioning system and roofs, improvement of winterizing systems, etc. The sum mentioned is envisaged by the draft agreement on major overhaul of administrative buildings of the Ukrainian Parliament which is yet to come in effect, since the procedures envisaged by the Law of Ukraine "On State Purchase" have not been completed.
The press service emphasizes that the fence which separated the main building of the parliament from the Mariinskyi park has not been installed by any services of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate, and thus has not been funded at the expense of the parliamentary budget.
