During the 9th Session of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the Sixth Convocation, the Committee on Public Health intends to scrutinize nearly 30 Bills

According to the ratified working plan of the Committee, the following bills adopted as a basis at the previous session shall be adjusted to the second reading: on amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Tuberculosis Prevention" (Reg. No.6037), "On Amendments to several Legislative Acts of Ukraine on Public Health" (re Strengthening of Control over the Circulation of Medicine, Dietary Means, Functional Food and Dietary Supplements) (Reg. No7007). The bill (Reg. No.7007) prohibits advertising of the medicines; sets the terms of licensing the production of medicines, wholesale and retail trade; determines the authorities of the licensing state bodies.

The bill strengthens the governmental control over the quality of produced and imported medicines in the territory of Ukraine by establishing compulsory state supervision over the quality of medicines imported in Ukraine, and compulsory supervision over the production, storage and sale conditions of medicines before issuing a license for this activity. Adoption of the bill will strengthen the governmental control over the quality of produced and imported medicines in the territory of Ukraine. The bill supplements clause 21 of the Law "On Advertising" with the principles on protection of the medicines advertising and restriction of advertising of the medicine and dietary means, functional food and dietary supplements.

The Bill on Amendments to several Laws of Ukraine regarding emergency aid to the persons in the life-threatening and dangerous to health condition. The bill (Reg. No.7278) amends clause 37 of the Fundamentals of Ukrainian Legislation on Public Health, and clause 10 of the Law "On the Police." Namely, it establishes the following: medical personnel are obliged to provide emergency aid to the alcohol or drug-impaired persons or persons in other life-threatening and dangerous to health conditions. The bill envisages re-equipment of available rooms in hospitals into the diagnostic-detoxification and rehabilitation rooms. Furthermore, the bill obliges the police to provide transportation of alcohol or drug-impaired persons or persons in other life-threatening and dangerous to health conditions to the nearest medical and preventive treatment institution.

The Committee shall also held an off-site sitting "Experience on Reformation and Optimization of Public Health System in Ivano-Frankivsk region" in October 2001 and hold hearings: "On State of Cardiac Surgery Assistance in Ukraine and Ways of Its Improvement."
