Members of the Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and International Relations met Representatives of the Monitoring Committee of the Council of Europe

People´s Deputies of Ukraine V.Taran, V.Popesku, O.Bondarenko, M.Dzhemiliev and E.Pavlenko, and Co-Rapporteurs of the Committee on the Honouring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) M. de Pourbaix-Lundin and M. Raps attended the meeting.

 

Committee Chair Oleh Zarubinskyi informed the guests about committee´s law-making aimed at harmonization of Ukrainian legislative acts with the dictates of the time. He stated that the Verkhovna Rada received 10 bills which introduce tools of extra and temporary protection of foreigners and stateless persons, fix the legal status of foreigners and stateless persons in line with the international standards in the sphere of human rights, regulate entry to and exit from Ukraine, and introduce documents with an electronic carrier of biometric data in line with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

 

Oleh Zarubinskyi informed that the Verkhovna Rada had just adopted the Law "On Human Trafficking Counteraction" which is a complex document regulating different aspects of this problem.  

 

Co-Rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee were interested in the restoration of rights of the persons deported on the principle of their nationality. The Committee Chair assured the guests that during their visit to the Crimean Autonomous Republic they will have a chance "to see the real situation."
