Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mykola Tomenko informed that central authorities are implementing a newly-adopted law on strengthening of poaching counteraction.
The Deputy Chairman stated that on June 15, 2011, the State Customs Service informed the customs bodies in a respective letter about the legally binding requirements concerning prohibited import of hunting items. An action plan of the State Customs Service was ratified. Classification codes of hunting items, the import of which is banned, were fixed, and the information was published in the automated system of customs clearance.
M.Tomenko expects other central executive authorities (State Agency for Fishing Industry, State Environmental Inspectorate, and other local institutions) to take legislative action to prevent manufacture, sale, use and storage of the prohibited tools for fishing and hunting.
As reported, the Law on Amendments to the Law "On Fauna" (re Strengthening of Poaching Counteraction) (Reg. No. 3325-VI) came into effect on June 5, 2011. The law was drafted by People´s Deputies M.Tomenko, A.Semynoha, V.Danylenko, and O.Horoshkevych on the initiative of several environmental organizations. The law prohibits manufacture, sale and use of poaching tools, and import of traps, electric fishing systems (electric fishing rods) and synthetic nets in Ukraine.
