Draft state budget for 2012 provides for a significant pay rise for the teachers and librarians.
Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn informed about this positive solution of librarians´ social security issues, meeting the librarians of Zhytomyr and Novohrad-Volynskyi district on the occasion of the All-Ukrainian Library Day.
"Settlement of these issues will raise the status of workers in this sphere," he said. V. Lytvyn believes that it is especially important for the librarians in villages due to the lack of financial support.
V. Lytvyn stressed that he treats the libraries "with a great piety." Recollecting the days of his childhood, the Head of the Parliament said that it was the librarians who guided him towards "the right literature", seeing "his inclination for humanities."
The Head of the Parliament greeted the participants of the meeting with the All-Ukrainian Library Day, declaring that their work "protects from spiritual emptiness." He called for financing publication of Ukrainian books. He singled out great achievements in the field of history and other sciences, which can make a breakthrough in publishing.
