Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn counts upon an active work of the parliament at the coming session.

"I expect the compromise to be reached, as it predetermines further life in the country," V.Lytvyn stated at the press conference within the working visit to Zhytomyr region.

The Head of the Parliament stated, "It is obvious and right that the parliament will be in the center of political life, as there is plenty of work and an array of crucial issues such as the drafts on land market and the pension reform." "It also concerns the bills on the use of languages," he informed.

However, the Head of the Parliament warned about the great risks and challenges of the law on languages in the sphere of language policy, politics, and finance. "Initiators of the bill overlooked some aspects," he admitted. V.Lytvyn welcomes development of regional languages, but not at the expense of the Ukrainian language, while "the norms suggested threaten the Ukrainian language." According to V.Lytvyn, "the law might force ten per cent of people to become bilingual." Thus, the process of education might be "disrupted."

Therefore, V.Lytvyn considers this document argumentative. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supposes that language issues must be regulated naturally.
