Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Club convened at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on July 5, 2011.
27 deputies of the European Parliament attended the working session. Ukraine was represented by People´s Deputies Volodymyr Vecherko, Olha Herasymiuk and Iryna Herashchenko. Commissioner of the European Commission responsible for enlargement and European neighbourhood policy Štefan Füle and Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryshchenko attended the meeting.
The parties discussed key issues of Ukraine-EU cooperation, implementation of internal reforms in Ukraine, harmonization of Ukrainian legislation with the EU standards, and development of democracy and civil freedoms. The participants of the meeting focused on strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation to boost the dialogue between Ukraine and the European Union.
The parties attach great importance to the inter-parliamentary cooperation for the benefit of the European integration of Ukraine.
Newly-elected co-chair of Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Club Volodymyr Vecherko stated that Ukraine has always strived for the EU integration.
For reference: Ukraine-EU Parliamentary Club was established in May 2011 on the initiative of the Deputies of the European Parliament Alexander Mirsky and Boguslaw Liberadski. The club unites 35 members of the European Parliament and 33 deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
