Mykola Tomenko: It is Useful and Informative to reread the Poems of Volodymyr Mayakovskiy whose Birthday is celebrated today
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated that ‘Ruthenian world´ campaign is being promoted in Ukraine. He claimed that ministers of the Ukrainian government, deputies, and low-level officials are participating in it. "A telling example is an attempt to belittle the state holiday, the Independence Day of Ukraine, as well as celebration of the 20th anniversary of Independence," the Head of the Parliament stated.
M.Tomenko drew attention to the campaign aimed at discredit of Ukrainian history, culture and language. Many high-level officials can not find moral authorities in the Ukrainian history and literature, so they are trying to impose the ‘authorities´ from other cultures.
"It is neither the first nor the last attack on the Ukrainianhood. Therefore, it would be useful and informative for the acting authorities to reread the famous poem "Duty to Ukraine" ("Dolg Ukraine") by Volodymyr Mayakovskiy whose birthday is celebrated today," the Deputy Chairman stressed.
Volodymyr Mayakovskiy was born on July 19, 1893. The poem "Duty to Ukraine" ("Dolg Ukraine") was written 85 years ago, in 1926. Many Russian and Soviet leaders, including Joseph Stalin, regarded Volodymyr Mayakovskiy as a classic of Soviet literature.
