Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized the long debatable situation with the so-called double citizenship, though the state authority bodies have always ignored the problem.

M. Tomenko deems the situation dangerous, since the stimulation on the part of numerous states, especially those neighboring to Ukraine, issuing of passport and second citizenship to the citizens of Ukraine is a well-known fact. Deputy Chairman reminded that several months ago he used to propose special sitting of the Council of National Security and Defense regarding given problem. "Though, neither President, nor the Council on Security and Defense, managed to give a sound response to the propositions", the politician announced.

At the same time, M. Tomenko stressed that the legislation of Ukraine prohibits the double citizenship and reference to the fact that there is no definite procedure of double citizenship verification does not divest of the responsibility bodies charged with such verifications and persons involved in scandals.
