On Thursday, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn attended the opening of the new premises of a secondary school No.8 in the town of Novohrad-Volynskyi (Zhytomyr region).

This school dates back more than 100 years, covering the way from a parochial school to a primary school, a junior secondary school, and a secondary one. For all this time it has been located in the old premises without proper schooling conditions. Construction of the new school premises started in 1998 and was completed this year. Budget funds for further construction were allocated under the governmental resolution owing to the assistance of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

A new building has modern well-equipped classes, a choreographic class, a sports hall and an assembly room, a sports playground and a dining hall. 360 pupils will study at this school this year, but in the future the number of pupils will grow.

Addressing the participants of the festivities, V.Lytvyn thanked the builders, teachers and all those "who made this memorable moment closer." He considers it of prime importance that the pupils obtained proper education and had fine prospects for the future.

The Head of the Parliament wished the first-graders "to feel that school is their second home", and school-leavers "to cultivate their abilities on a daily basis", as knowledge will become their pass into a turbulent and difficult life.
