On Friday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan.

 

V.Lytvyn greeted the President of Armenia on his birthday and wished him sound health and well-being, and prosperity and welfare to the Armenian nation.

 

V.Lytvyn stated that the visit of Mr Sargsyan is of great significance for Ukraine. He stressed that Ukraine attaches great importance to the development of bilateral political dialogue. The Head of the Parliament supposes that the states have a significant potential for political, economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation.   

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for boosting bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation. He is anticipating the visit of the Ukrainian parliamentary delegation to Armenia on July 11-12, 2011. V.Lytvyn also supports systemic cooperation between the parliamentary groups of friendship and committees.

 

V.Lytvyn commented on the fruitful cooperation between the parliamentary delegations of Ukraine and Armenia in the international parliamentary organizations, such as PABSEC, OSCE PA, and PACE. The Head of the Parliament supposes that EURONEST PA offers new prospects for bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation.   

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for developing cultural-humanitarian cooperation, considering historical links between the nations, common cultural heritage, and the fact that a large Armenian diaspora resides in Ukraine, actively participating in its economic, cultural, and socio-political life.

 

He also thanked the Armenian party for their assistance in the erection of the monument to T.H.Shevchenko in Yerevan.

 

The Head of the Parliament called for boosting cooperation in the educational and scientific sectors, esp. between the academic institutions.

 

The President of Armenia highly appreciated the outcome of the negotiations held during his visit to Ukraine. He stressed that Armenia is willing to develop bilateral relations. Mr Sargsyan believes that historical links is a good foundation for the development of cooperation.

 

He also highly appreciated the level of cooperation between the parliamentary delegations in the inter-parliamentary associations. He deem necessary to boost inter-parliamentary and humanitarian liaison.

 

Mr Sargsyan thanked for the efforts of the Ukrainian authorities to support the rights and needs of the Armenian diaspora in Ukraine.
