European Course of Ukraine is at the Stage of Implementation
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the foregoing statement, asked by the journalists of Polish Radio. He stated, "The fact that Ukraine as a European state should be a part of the European community has been reconsidered and acknowledged."
To achieve the desired result in this sphere, Ukraine "should do its ‘home assignments´, the Chair is convinced. However, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament believes that our state needs assistance of the states, nations and people aware of the fact that "Ukraine should be taken to the European family."
According to V. Lytvyn, coordination of work and efforts between Ukraine and Poland will strengthen position of Poland in the European Union and facilitate successful integration of Ukraine into the European community.
Ukraine expects that during Poland´s presidency over the European Parliament, several agreements with this institution will be signed, namely, the agreement on political association, free trade zone and visa free regime with the EU. "It is necessary for Ukraine, as our state approaches the European destination point, having made its foreign political choice and forced the Ukrainian politicians to follow it."
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine warned that Ukraine should not be regarded as a country which can only serve as a platform for working off democratic order of states and societies. "We understand that not all realities of our life meet the European standards," he stated. "However, we are implementing reforms, and Ukrainian people appreciate political signals from the European community."
