Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine John Tefft congratulated the graduates of the Program of Internship at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and Central Executive Bodies.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada considers the Program of Internship to be "a good cause, as it is a school of leaders and young politicians." V. Lytvyn made this statement, greeting the graduates of the 16th Program of Internship at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the 3rd Training Program in Central Executive Authority Bodies. V. Lytvyn reminded that students from all Ukrainian regions had been working in the parliamentary committees and structural subdivisions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate and six Ministries of Ukraine during eight months.

"Ukraine needs new people and fresh names in political, economic and social life, since it is one thing to learn political terminology but a different one to follow a particular position as a way of living", the Head of the Parliament declared, adding that more than thousand students have already participated in the program.

Discussing the role of young politicians in solving the current problems, V. Lytvyn stated, "The atmosphere of relations between the authorities and the public shall change, as it is necessary to alter the system of our life and provide a social order supported by the law." Thus, the Chairman of the Parliament deems necessary to adopt the long-awaited decisions, otherwise "Ukraine might remain a hostage of events in XX century even after 20 years of independence." According to V. Lytvyn, the importance of reforms is generally acknowledged, but criticism should finally turn into actions.

John Tefft, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine, also congratulated the graduates of the Internship Program. He stated that he was an intern of the US Parliamentary Training Program, which was a great lesson for his future career.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the moderators of the Program and its financial supporters, the US Agency on International Development in particular.
