Mykola Tomenko: From the Point of View of History and Culture, it would be Fair to erect the Monument to Taras Shevchenko in Yerevan

On Wednesday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, took part in the Regional Parliamentary Seminar "Making Child Rights a Reality for the Most Vulnerable Children" in Yerevan.

 

M.Tomenko met representatives of the Armenian Parliament, business and clergy to discuss activization of Ukrainian-Armenian educational and cultural connections. Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Ivan Kukhta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Armenia, having discussed erection of monument to Taras Shevchenko in Yerevan. As reported, foundation stone of the monument to the Great Kobzar was laid in 2003, but construction has not started due to various reasons. The Parties called for a more active participation of the Armenian Party in the implementation of this project. M.Tomenko informed that there is no monument to Taras Shevchenko in Armenia. "From the point of view of history and culture, it would be fair to erect the monument to Taras Shevchenko in Yerevan by 2014 the 200th anniversary of poet´s birth," the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.
