Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calls for prioritizing the Reforms

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calls for prioritizing the reforms. During the telephone call-in show for the Izvestia v Ukraine newspaper, the Chairman emphasised importance of the ambitious reforms, as "otherwise the state will lose its perspectives."

The Head of the Ukrainian Parliament believes that reforms can not be implemented in twenty one directions at the same time. "As a lot of problems should be settled simultaneously, some of them should be prioritized", Volodymyr Lytvyn believes. He deems necessary to tackle the issues in the spheres of public health, public utility services, education, deregulation of economics, and rural areas.

"Having prioritized the reforms, it will be easier to speak with people who should understand the logic of the authorities. People will reassess particular steps, if the authorities are frank with them", V. Lytvyn explained. According to the politician, one should stop thinking only about parliamentary elections, since it short-circuits the country's development. "A constant desire to hit the tastes of the voters resulted in numerous laws that envisage welfare payments for the sum of UAH 160 billion. It comprises the biggest part of the state budget and does not match the economic capacities of the state", the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada admitted. "If the situation does not change, it will lead to the bankruptcy of the state. I hope that time of politicians raising hopes of the population has run out."
