Adam Martyniuk: Growth of the Ukrainian-Chinese Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation strengthens Mutual Understanding and Friendship between the Ukrainian and Chinese Nations

 

On June 6, Adam Martyniuk, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, met Wang Zhaoguo, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.

 

Ukrainian politician is convinced that there are all the preconditions for the dynamic development of the Ukrainian-Chinese relations towards the strategic partnership.

 

According to the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine is interested in dynamic political contacts with the People´s Republic of China. He emphasised, "We are looking forward to the state visit of Hu Jintao, President of the People´s Republic of China, which should become a great event in the further improvement of bilateral cooperation and relations. The first for the last ten years visit is scheduled for June." The Parties are convinced that this visit will start a new chapter in the history of bilateral cooperation, and will facilitate further development of Ukrainian-Chinese cooperation.

 

The participants of the meeting appreciated the results of the state visit of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to the People´s Republic of China in September 2010, and the official visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov to China in April 2011.

The Parties discussed inter-state relations and their parliamentary component, laying emphasis on the efficient cooperation between the legislative bodies of both states in the form of bilateral and multilateral relations within the international parliamentary alliances.

 

Commenting on the current state and prospects of the Ukrainian - Chinese trade-economic cooperation, the First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament positively assessed achievements and efforts of the Parties to reestablish pre-crisis rates of trade by implementing agreements between Ukraine and People´s Republic of China. The figures will presently total USD 10 billion. According to A. Martyniuk, recent development of trade proves that its goals are topical. However, the First Deputy Chairman regrets that bilateral investment cooperation has not met all the requirements and capacities of China and Ukraine.
