Signing of the Joint Declaration on Establishment and Development of Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the People´s Republic of China opens new prospects for the progress of bilateral relations.

 

Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made the foregoing statement, meeting Hu Jintao, President of the People´s Republic of China.

 

V.Lytvyn declared that Ukraine highly appreciates the level of mutual understanding and trust between the countries. He regards this visit as a historic event. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine greeted the President of the People´s Republic of China with the forthcoming notable date the 90th anniversary of foundation of the Communist Party of China. He declared that this political force, headed by the highly esteemed guest, has considerably contributed to the rapid economic development and scientific and technical progress.

 

V.Lytvyn expressed his sincere gratitude to the Chinese Party for the participation of the Chinese delegation in Chornobyl Donor Conference and Kyiv Summit on Safe and innovative Use of Nuclear Power held on April 19, 2011.

 

The Head of the Parliament thanked the Chinese Party for providing rehabilitation and recreation of Ukrainian children who suffered in the result of Chornobyl meltdown.

 

The President of the People´s Republic of China greeted V.Lytvyn on behalf of Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo, and invited the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada to visit China.

 

On behalf of the Chinese people, Mr Hu Jintao congratulated Ukrainians on the 20th anniversary of independence, and wished success in all spheres.  

 

The President of the People´s Republic of China noted successful development of bilateral relations, stressing that meaningful Ukrainian-Chinese negotiations were followed by signing of several important documents. Mr Hu Jintao attaches great importance to the inter-parliamentary liaison. He considers inter-parliamentary connections to be an active developmental factor and a driving force of Ukrainian-Chinese relations. 

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine invited Congress Chairman Wu Bangguo to make an official visit to Ukraine. He stated that Ukraine was looking forward to the visit of Li Zhaoxing, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People´s Congress of China, Head of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship "China-Ukraine."

 

V.Lytvyn assured that the Ukrainian Parliament would prioritize legislative resolutions concerning agreements reached during the meeting of the President of Ukraine and the President of the People´s Republic of China. 

 

The Parties underscored the key role of the parliaments in the development of regional cooperation.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine recommends the legislative bodies of both states to focus on the development of bilateral cooperation in the humanitarian, cultural, scientific and educational spheres. "Making it a common cause, we will obtain positive results," he stated.

 

V.Lytvyn also informed about growing interest to studying Chinese in Ukraine. Seven higher education establishments of Ukraine offer the Chinese language as a major. One hundred students master this language in the National Taras Shevchenko University only.

 

The Head of the Parliament thanked the Chinese Party for organizing the Days of Ukrainian Culture in China in august 2010. He assured that the Parliament would support successful organization of the Chinese Culture Days in Ukraine in autumn 2011.  

 

V.Lytvyn called for development of relations between academic institutions of Ukraine and China in the sphere of social studies.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also deems necessary to join the efforts of legislative bodies of both states on the international arena.

 

After the meeting, V.Lytvyn declared that the visit of the President of the People´s Republic of China is a historic event. It is the second visit for the period of Ukraine´s independence.  V.Lytvyn believes that importance of the visit is confirmed by the signing of the declaration on establishment and development of strategic partnership. Practical tools of strategic partnership in the economic sector are being developed.

 

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine attaches great importance to the signing of agreements on cooperation in foreign policy, which extends possibilities of Ukraine and the People´s Republic of China in the economic and humanitarian sectors, and boosts inter-parliamentary cooperation.  "I believe that it is a long-term strategy," he declared.
