The bill (Reg. No. 8499) was presented by the Minister of Defense Mykhailo Yezhel. The primary purpose of this bill is to ratify the President´s Decree on sending Ukrainian Peacekeeping Forces to support UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire. The bill extends the period of stay of the Ukrainian air unit supporting UN Operation in Cote d'Ivoire until September 30, 2011, strengthening the peacekeeping force of Ukraine in Liberia by 70 persons.
The Minister of Defense reminded that the period of temporary redeployment of Ukrainian air unit to Cote d'Ivoire ends on May 4, 2011 under the Law of Ukraine of February 4, 2011 No. 3001-VI. Considering critical importance of further deployment of military aviation capacities of Ukraine to support UN operation in this African state, the UN Secretariat requested to extend the period of temporary redeployment of Ukrainian peacekeeping forces from the UN mission in Liberia to the territory of Cote d'Ivoire by September 30, 2011.
The Minister of Defense assured that Ukrainian peacekeeping forces do not face any threats, so they can continue their mission.
The People´s Deputies listened to the reports of the representatives of the Main Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine who positively assessed the political situation in Cote d'Ivoire.
