Ukraine´s acquisition of a full-fledged
membership in the energy community since February 1 lay the foundation for further
integration of energy markets of Ukraine and the EU, and expansion of cooperation
on energy on the basis of common legislative principles.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, made this statement at the sitting of the Bureau of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Sejm and Senate of the Republic of Poland in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
V.Lytvyn expects formation of a single energy market to strengthen energy security in the European region owing to the effective policy of cooperation between the countries-suppliers, transit countries, and energy consumers. "Ukraine counts on fruitful cooperation on this issue with Poland and Lithuania," he stated.
The Head of the Parliament calls for assessing capacities and prospects of cooperation within the Energy Security Centre in Vilnius.
V.Lytvyn reminded that on April 19-20, Kyiv hosted the international forum Kyiv Summit and the Donor Conference dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Chornobyl disaster and strengthening of energy security. He expressed his gratitude to the EU states that took part in the events and donated to the recovery projects.
The Head of the Parliament stated that Chornobyl disaster of 1986, and Fukushima nuclear accident of 2011 demonstrated that some threats cross the national borders, becoming the tragedies with irreversible regional and global consequences.
