On Saturday, May 7, Volodymyr
Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, is going to sign the Decree
on the Order of Implementation of the Law on Access to the Public Information
by The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Secretariate.
At the press conference on Friday, V. Lytvyn announced that a respective decree had already been drafted and initiated by the Deputy Chairmen. According to the Chairman, the document shall also be initialed by the Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information, as the subject committee monitors implementation of the Law.
V. Lytvyn stated that under the decree, claimers "will receive full information at our disposal, in particular with the help of computer media."
Asked whether the People's Deputies are going to amend the Law on access to the public information by the order of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, V. Lytvyn stated that he had commissioned the Committees to express their standpoints on the implementation of the Law. He mentioned that seven parliamentary committees suggested amending several laws to strengthen the Law on access to the public information.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized that all the motions had been summarized and directed to the Chairman of the Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information.
V. Lytvyn deems necessary to implement the law at first, introducing required amendments afterwards.
