Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, expects that events dedicated to the 150th anniversary of reburial of T.H.Shevchenko in Kaniv will foster mutual understanding and realization of common responsibility for the future of our nations.

 

Speaking at the requiem mass on the 150th anniversary of reburial of T.H.Shevchenko at Smolenskyi cemetery in Saint-Petersburg, V.Lytvyn stated that Taras Shevchenko´s acts had not been properly analyzed yet.  

 

According to the Head of the Parliament, "this unstable time calls for humanity and humanism, which was acknowledged by the Great Poet."  

 

V.Lytvyn stated, "We should come to the grave of the Great Kobzar to reflect on our acts and compare them with the words of Shevchenko."

 

After the memorial service, the delegation of parliament members of Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan will follow the itinerary of the funeral procession with the body of the Great Kobzar in the year 1861.

 

Sergei Mironov, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Ural Muhamedjanov, Chairman of the Majlis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, People´s Deputies of Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan attended the memorial service.

 

At the press conference, the Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stated that the foregoing events would help realize our common responsibility. He declared that T.H.Shevchenko is not only a prominent poet, but also philosopher and artist.  

 

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is also to meet Minister for the Environment of Denmark Mrs. Karen Ellemann.
